EXCITING NEW PROJECT
Save your manufacturer coupons for grocery items. During the month of January RSVP in all counties will be collecting coupons to send to military families stationed overseas. Commissaries on overseas military bases will accept coupons up to 6 months past their expiration dates, so save even the one’s that you let expire. You can drop these at the RSVP offices in Libby, Polson, Superior, and Hamilton. Other locations will be published in the local papers or call your coordinator to find out where else you will find a box. At print time we were still confirming locations, but the hope is to have collection boxes at Senior Centers and grocery stores. After we collect these, we hope some volunteers will help sort and package them. We have addresses for 26 different bases that will accept the coupons and distribute them to families. Call your coordinator if you want to be involved.
Lots of other things continue to happen at RSVP. We held grant writing workshops in Libby and Hamilton; writing grants is a great way to help your favorite station increase their impact. More workshops coming up are “Friendly Visitor” in Hamilton, “Dealing with Alzheimer’s” in Polson and Libby and “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” in Hamilton and Polson. There will also be a community meeting in Superior that will look at ways for multiple groups to partner on meeting community needs. Check the calendar or website for dates. The coat drive in Ravalli was another success. Looks like this will be an annual event.
Finally, our Volunteer lunches will be in March this year. Watch for your invitation and please let us know if you can attend. This is a nice time to connect with other volunteers and find out more about how your service together with the other volunteers really makes a difference.
